View as slideshow In colder climates, heating accounts for about one-third of a homeowner’s annual utility bill, which is why many are seeking thriftier ways to stay toasty. Freestanding pellet stoves and inserts that fit inside an existing fireplace are an increasingly popular solution. They look like traditional woodstoves but operate more like a modern furnace. You need only fill the stove’s hopper with pellets made from compacted sawdust, set its thermostat, sit back, and get cozy. A mechanical auger deposits the pellets into a burn pot, where they are incinerated at such a high temperature that they create no vent-clogging creosote and very little ash or emissions, which keeps both indoor and outdoor air cleaner. The best part is that they are about twice as efficient at warming your home as older woodstoves that have not been certified by the Environmental Protection Agency EPA and are vastly more efficient than fireplaces. Depending on your home’s size and layout, a pellet stove could supplement the current heating system or be used as the sole source. And, despite its workhorse reputation, pellet stoves come in a variety of designs to complement any interior style.

I have my pellet stove downstairs and a wood stove insert with a cooktop in the upstairs fireplace. Nope the only place in the whole house a stove can set is on the hearth the pellet stove fits on. And after heating my house with a wood stove for years I’m not going near that PITA again on a dare. I can fill the hopper on my stove from the pellet box I built next to the stove and totally forget about the stove for hours. I fill the pellet box once every days from a stack in my car port.

We’ll answer several questions here though. Start first by determining what type of chimney pipe your appliance requires. This information is in the instruction manual of your appliance and there are several types of chimney. For instance; Class A chimney pipe is for wood, coal, and most fuels however, it may not be required for your gas appliance or pellet appliance.
Pellet vent is for pellet burning appliances or corn burners. B-Vent is for certain gas appliances but not all. Direct-vent chimney is for a direct-vent gas appliance. Bottom Line — Read your instruction manual to see what type of chimney is required for your appliance. Determine the layout or installation type that is applicable for your home.
For Class A chimney pipe, a straight up thru-the-ceiling installation is the most popular, the least expensive, and provides the best draft but is not always an option. Next, determine the size of the chimney pipe needed. Never go smaller than what is required or you risk having smoke or gasses backing up or a poor draft in other words.
Once you determine the above 4 requirements you will need to choose a manufacturer and brand of chimney pipe many manufacturers offer several brands within a type.

Amazing new pellet heater uses battery backup DC drive technology to solve one of the biggest consumer concerns regarding back up heat. With all of the ice storms and power outages in recent winters one key question on the consumer’s mind is how do I provide back up heat? Today’s modern homes use many appliances to heat and cool. However, when the power goes out those appliances don’t work. Now you can say “we’ll just get a generator and the problem goes away”. This of course is a very expensive undertaking as the average small home style generator will only power a small number of appliances and require special circuits and wiring to adapt.
Most power outages are resolved fairly quickly in recent winters some customers in the North East were without power for a week! This is where the Thelin Pellet Heaters pellet heaters shine. With the battery to power the heater the digital control system monitors the ac power and charges the battery. When the power goes out the heater is already running on dc power so it never misses a beat.

You have a link proving you can’t have a cold air return in the same room as a woodstove? I find that hard to believe, considering the fact that many people have their woodstoves in their living room, and they also have a cold air return in their living rooms. Also, what about open concept houses, how is a room defined?
It’s also common sense. Now, I do think if I looked even further, there might be a distance you must be from the fireplace or wood stove, but it’s best not to have a return air inlet near your solid-fuel burning appliance – ever. Even if you have a dedicated combustion air to the wood stove, if your furnace is on, and you open your wood stove, you could suck smoke down the chimney. A room is defined by the plans ion the blueprint.

DonT on December 10, , My brother in law had a pellet stove and an inverter. The inverter blew the circuit board in the stove. There are several kinds of inverters.
